Michael O'Connell

Michael is a Western Australian born visual artist working from his studio in North Fremantle. While he considers himself primarily a painter, the use of multi-media, printmaking, photography, drawing and sculpture also form part of his personal practice. He generally explores his work in themes and while these themes are varied, they are all tied together by his investigation into his concept of identity. It is Michael’s intention to use humour and he is naturally drawn to funny visual paradoxes and puns. Although this may be his primary aim, there is a darker side to interpreting his work and his work is layered with meanings and messages. He has been painting for decades and his career has included numerous solo and group exhibitions.
