Who We Are

The Art Committee was initiated by Perth College Old Girl, Shirley Withers in 1985 and was duly formed in 1986 with Jackie Sprogoe as the inaugural President. We are a mix of parents, past parents, staff and Old Girls combining artistic and organisational skills. Any member of the Perth College community is invited to become a committee member or volunteer to help out during the exhibition.

What We Do

  • Curate an annual fine art exhibition, showcasing works from established and emerging Western Australian artists.

  • Organise a highly anticipated Champagne Opening with Live Art, music, and entertainment which is a landmark event on the Perth College calendar.

  • Provide all students between Kindergarten and Year 12 with a diverse quality exhibition experience.

  • Coordinate and support the Artist-in-Residence programme and sponsor the School's art camp for Senior students.
  • Manage, curate and acquire new Western Australian art for the Perth College Art Collection, further enriching the school environment.

Artist in Residence Programme

The Artist-in-Residence programme began in 2013, with the Art Committee sponsoring workshops for senior art students. In recent years the committee has arranged for artists to work with students from Kindergarten to Year 12, providing the girls with an avenue to develop their artistic practice.

In 2020, two artists were invited to teach the students their unique styles. Landscape artist, Tony Windberg showed the girls how to experiment with a range of techniques using paint and other materials such as earth pigments. Aboriginal artist Loretta Egan worked with the students during NAIDOC week to produce an aerial image of the School as it is orientated on Noongar land.

Other Artists-in-Residence who have provided the girls a diverse experience in previous years include Tanya Schultz (Pip and Pop sculpture), Michael Speechley (illustration), Michael O'Connell (graphic painting), Mark Tweedie (portraiture), Graham Hay (ceramic paper clay sculpture), Andy Quilty (paint and pen portraiture), Hayley Welsh (surreal painting on found objects), and Jarrad Martyn.
