Rick Staker is a Western Australian based artist with a passion for water colour painting. His work tends to focus on the environment landscapes, seascapes, and our day to day interactions with them. The subject matter is generally coast or country although many paintings arise out of his travels. Why watercolour? Its transparency, its depiction of light and mood, its rich tapestry of colours and movement on the paper gives a painting a life of its own and artistically he finds there is nothing more exciting. His paintings are not too exact or tight but will leave room for the viewer to interpret or see something different, depending on the light or the mood. Abstract realism is a technique he continually aspires to.
